Kyn Hearth EcoVillage

"Basic" Information

ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY COMMITMENT

Kyn Hearth is committed to the following core, not to be compromised, values. These are the minimum "standards", not the maximum, ideal, or "ultimate".

All electrical power used at Kyn Hearth is/will be generated by the "best attainable technology" "we" are aware of and able to provide. Within that, there will be no electric power sources used at Kyn Hearth which originate from burning petrochemicals, fossil fuels, or any other non-renewable fuels; nuclear power plants; or large-scale, eco-system destroying hydro-electric systems.

All mechanical devices 1 and on site vehicles 2, will be "powered by": hand, renewable fuels 3, solar or small scale hydro electric power 4. ("Short term/transition" use of existing propane driven devices is/may be supported, because it burns very clean.)

Kyn Hearth is/will use organic growing methods; non-toxic cleaners, paints, finishes, building materials, etc.; recycled and recovered products; and will apply the principle of reduce, reuse, recycle and reject to "everything".

"We" are/will continually question, research, experiment with, and implement "better" systems and solutions, both interpersonal and environmental.

Even with alternative energy systems in place, personal consumption of all materials is/will be reduced from the current levels identified as "normal" in the United States. This includes water, electricity, building materials, renewable fuels, etc.

INTERPERSONAL SUSTAINABILITY COMMITMENT

Equally vital, synergistic partner with environmental sustainability systems are interpersonal sustainability systems. The core, not to be compromised, values here are to: radical honesty, 100% personal responsibility, compassion, respect, personal integrity, and equity. These values are not intended to operate "separately", but in harmony, each balancing the others. For example radical honesty without compassion could be unnecessarily brutal. Radical honesty without 100% personal responsibility could "blame" others for the "things" one is not "happy with" in one's own life.

Kyn Hearth is/will remain open minded/hearted and will "experiment" with new techniques and systems 5.

Kyn Hearth does/will nurture a supportive environment for all "healthy" relationship 6 "realities".

These first guides are core, not to be compromised, values. The following are "experiments" to provide/create systems which will foster/nurture these "healthy" interpersonal systems. These may change as "new" experiments are conceived and implemented.

Income Sharing: This experiment is to address the inequity of our society around the "value" of each person's "work". All current personal income will be placed in a "common" "pot". And all income sharing members will determine how the available funds will be allocated.

Consensus Decisions: This experiment is to address the inequity, marginalization, and disenfranchisement of this society's "democratic/majority rules" decision making process. There are a number of consensus model available to experiment with. Kyn Hearth members will decide which to start with and, potentially, change to.

1. Chain saws, lawnmowers, generators, power tools, pumps, sawmills, etc.

2. Tractors, earth movers (delicately), transportation and hauling vehicles (once you are on site), etc.

3. Renewable fuels, as we recognize them at this time include: wood (consciously), biodiesel, ethanol, and methane. At the time this is written, solar hydrogen generation is being researched.

4. Wind power is not listed because there are no "good" wind power sites at Kyn Hearth.

5. The basic "theme" at Kyn Hearth is a positive, "can do", "how are we going to work this out" attitude.

6. This includes but is not limited to: positive self image, positive sexuality, healthy monogamy, polyamory, bisexuality, gay and lesbian relationships, pansexuality, celibacy, "non-judgmental, non-evangelical" spiritual alignment, etc.
